The statue of Caesar

(The Roman Bridge)

Die Cäsarstatue
Building bridges was part of the outstandung achievements of the Romans. About 11 AD Drusus built the second bridge across the Rhine in Bonn. Made out of wood the bridge collapsed over the years, today its exact position is not known. We wouldn't know anything about it, unless a Roman historian called Florus hadn't mentioned it. On the occasion of the 2000th anniversary a statue of Caesar was erected on the spot where the bridge presumably had been, because 50 years before Drusus it was Caeser, who had the first bridge built across the Rhine not far from Bonn.
