The Academic Art Museum

T he Academic Art Museum was built in 1824 according to plans by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. It is the home of one of the largest collections of plaster castings from all over the world, consisting of 2500 mainly Roman or Greek reliefs, statues and busts. In addition to that there are original works of marble and especially Greek vases.

Among the Roman works the statue of Augustus of Primaporta is of special interest. Pupils doing Latin certainly know the relief of Orpheus, which is also here.
